Getting a flawless spray tan isn’t just about the tan itself, it is all about how you prepare your skin beforehand. If you're booking a mobile tanning session with Bronzed in Port Macquarie or the surrounding areas, here's how to get your skin prepped and ready for that perfect, even glow.
Proper spray tan preparation is one of the biggest factors in achieving a flawless, even and longer-lasting glow. At Bronzed Mobile Tanning, we guide clients across Port Macquarie, Lake Cathie, Bonny Hills and surrounding areas through the best spray tan prep routine before every appointment.
How to Prep for a Spray Tan Properly
1. How to Exfoliate Before a Spray Tan
The day before your spray tan, give your body a good exfoliation. Focus on areas that tend to be dry like elbows, knees, ankles, and wrists. This removes dead skin cells and creates a smooth, even surface for the tan to develop beautifully.
Hot tip: Use a scrub that’s oil-free—oily products can create a barrier and stop the tan from absorbing properly.
2. Hair Removal Before Your Spray Tan
If you're planning to shave or wax, make sure you do it at least 24 hours before your spray tan. Freshly waxed or shaved skin can be sensitive, and tanning solutions might not stick evenly if the skin is irritated.
3. What to Avoid Before a Spray Tan
On the day of your appointment, come with clean, dry skin. Moisturisers, perfumes, and deodorants can react with the tanning solution and cause patchiness or even strange colour changes (no thanks!).
4. What to Wear After a Spray Tan
After your tan, your skin needs a little breathing space to develop without friction. Wear loose, comfy clothing, preferably dark - to avoid rubbing off your fresh tan.
Think oversized tees, floaty dresses, and trackies. Plus, ditch the bra if you can!
5. Preparing Hands, Feet, Knees and Elbows
These areas can soak up more tanning solution than the rest of your body, so it's important to moisturise just your hands, feet, knees, and elbows a few hours before your tan (unless we advise otherwise). It helps prevent them from going too dark.
Prepping your skin properly = better results, a more natural tan, and longer-lasting colour!
